Acuvue Oasys with Transitions Contact Lenses

Acuvue Oasys with Transitions Contact Lenses

Introducing NEW ACUVUE® OASYS with Transitions™ Light Intelligent Technology™.

It´s a bit of a mouthful of a title, isn’t it? But when you hear all that this tiny disposable contact lens has to offer you´ll realise that it´s a well-deserved title.

ACUVUE® OASYS with Transitions™

Acuvue Oasis with Transitions light adapting contact lenses took over a decade and numerous clinical trials on over 1,000 patients to perfect. These lenses reduce squinting and disrupted vision due to bright lights whether from natural sunlight, artificial blue light or outdoor lights at night, such as street lamps and headlights.

So, I’ve been trying to think of specific instances where these lenses offer something that other lenses and glasses can´t.

Here are my top 4:

  1. Your vision is so precious. It is also constantly changing as you age, so wouldn’t you do whatever you could to keep it strong and healthy? It´s proven that wearing sunglasses helps in the prevention of cataracts, macular degeneration and other eye problems caused by exposure to the sun´s powerful UV rays. You wear sunscreen to protect your skin – why should your eyes be any different? Sunglasses only offer protection while you wear them whereas these contact lenses offer you all-day protection.
  2. I need to point out that because the lens doesn’t cover the entire eye it doesn’t provide full sun protection for your eyes, so sunglasses remain a fashion accessory you can continue to enjoy. However, most people don´t wear sunglasses when frolicking around in the pool so these lenses offer a unique advantage in this instance, and with these lenses you don´t run the risk of losing them to a wave at the beach!
  3. Another situation where I feel they have a specific advantage is in bright, sunny, well-lit offices, shops, restaurants and cafes. When indoors most people would probably give you funny looks if you wandered around wearing your sunglasses, however, with these lenses you can protect your eyes discretely without looking like a “Wannabe Rock Star”!
  4. The final reason I have chosen to include, is one mentioned on the Acuvue office website . It states that these lenses reduce haloes and starbursts at night and provide crisp, clear vision. I feel this is a clearly specific instance where these lenses offer something that other lenses and glasses can´t.

So next, the €50,000 question you want to know – how do they look? Will you look like an alien?

Up until now the traditional transitions lenses have had a bad rap and have never been seen as something “cool”. Even bringing fashion hero Tim Gunn (he of Project Runway fame) on board as a brand ambassador did little to improve their status. I think that the contact lens version of transition lenses may be the tipping point though.

When I first put them on I noticed a very slight brown tinge – whether this was real or imagined, I can´t honestly say. It may have been my sub-conscious playing tricks because when I looked at myself in the mirror I couldn´t see any difference. During the day, in bright light situations, I had to ask my friends if they could see a difference in my appearance. The fact I had to ask is a sign that the change wasn´t blatantly obvious. They said that my eyes looked a little darker than normal – for the benefits that the lenses offer, I can live with this.

The tagline that Johnson & Johnson uses for these lenses is “The contact lens that knows light”. So what do they mean by this?

These contact lenses react to changing light to provide all-day protection for your eyes. They quickly balance the amount of indoor and outdoor light entering the eye and, incredibly, become darker when activated by UV and/or HEV light. All contact lenses block some level of UVA/UVB rays but, because these contacts change to a dark shade when in sunlight, ACUVUE® OASYS with Transitions™ Light Intelligent Technology™ offer 99+% UVA/UVB protection. Even when this lens appears clear, it is working and adapting to different lighting conditions. While outdoors the lens is always changing in response to the light so the lens is rarely in the darkest state. It takes approximately 90 seconds to change completely from clear to darkest state and fades back quickly when you go indoors.

I almost forgot to mention that TIME has recognised ACUVUE® OASYS with Transitions™ as one of their Best Inventions of 2018! (So I´m not the only one who sees this as an intelligent invention.)

If someone asked you how well do you take care of your eyes, what would your answer be? Perhaps these lenses are an opportunity for you to do more.
