Allergies are a problem for almost 40 % of adults, 20 % experiencing some form of eye irritation. Children are also affected, perhaps less so, but Optase Allergy drops can be used for children 1 year and older.

Year on year patients experience debilitating difficulties with allergies, which typically is exacerbated by an underlying dry eye problem. The lack of a steady tear film across the cornea leaves it more exposed to allergy symptoms. Often patients will complain about their ability to work on computers and their digital devices due to the allergic irritation, making concentrated work more difficult. See the image below to understand the exposure dry eyes have and thus their susceptibility to any allergy type irritant (allergen).

Common symptoms of allergy affecting the eyes are itchy, streaming, light-sensitive sensations. Obviously, the dry eye patient will have an irritating feeling like something is in their eye, foreign body sensation.
The active ingredient in this new formulation is Ectoin which is a naturally occurring molecule produced by a micro-organism that flourishes in harsh, dry environments such as salt lakes and deserts.
Ectoin has been demonstrated to be effective at stabilizing the tear film and improving the hydration thus protecting the cornea the eye front surface from exposure to allergens that cause the allergic reaction.

Ectoin modes of action

Research shows patients using Ectoin have a significant reduction in allergy symptoms, with reduced tearing, itching eyes. By improving the protective coating the tear film offers to the cornea the less probability of suffering the symptoms of allergy. Remember the cornea is a highly sensitive tissue that is only calm and comfortable wet.
Each pack comes with 20 vials. Click here if you would like to order and we can post them out to you.
